Santa Clarita, California Mar 20, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - History buffs and adventure lovers have a reason to mark their calendars! On Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society co-sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita Public Library will present: "Santa Clarita's Heroes of 1850." This free event is at Old Town Newhall Public Library, 24500 Main St. Santa Clarita, CA 91321 (661) 259-0750.

The family-friendly presentation features a talk and artwork by Deborah Fox, author and illustrator of the award-winning graphic novel about pioneer hero William Lewis Manly, THE MAN WHO BEAT DEATH VALLEY.

Fox comments: It is the 175th anniversary of Manly's heroic trek to Santa Clarita. He was a humanitarian superhero who saved families from starvation, and early Santa Claritans played a key role in his story. Now more than ever, we need hero stories.

The presentation will have a giveaway of the graphic novel to one lucky winner. Signed copies of THE MAN WHO BEAT DEATH VALLEY will be available for purchase for $20.
