Launches New Program Save a Vet with a Pet

Veterans for America First North Carolina Chapter (VFAFNC.com) is proud to announce the beginning of a new program that will help Military Veterans as well as help canine rescues.

Many Military Veterans suffer from physical and mental disabilities and can use the help of a companion dog.

Many rescue dogs need a purpose and a loving home, if that cannot be found, then the animal has to be euthanized.

The enduring bond humans share with animals has the power to reduce suffering, mitigate loneliness, improve mental wellbeing, and bridge the gap between ourselves and others. For our troops, both past and present, these benefits are especially important to help the transition into civilian life.

Save a Vet with a Pet was created to improve the lives of both Veterans and canines by bringing them together in a thoughtful and caring way. Our goal is to give back to the brave servicemen and women who have given everything to our country while finding homes for deserving shelter dogs. By matching the right pet with the right Veteran, everyone wins!  Shelter dogs receive a second chance at life and Veterans receive a second chance at health and happiness.

By creating the Save a Vet with a Pet program, two very important and compassionate things occur. Number one a Military Veteran gets a best friend that can help them in many ways. Secondly, a canine that might be killed becomes a trained companion dog and best friend to a Veteran in need.

We have been working out the details for several months to make sure this program runs smoothly. Here is a group of trainers that work within the prisons here in North Carolina as part of rehabilitation, giving the prisoners a life skill when they are released. As we see it, we are helping veterans, we are helping dogs and we are helping with prison rehabilitation, all at the same time. Eventually, we hope to make this a national program. Said VFAF North Carolina and National President, Butch Conz.
